The World of Advertising

I don't really pay much attention to advertisements. They try to get you to think certain things and want certain items. When I was in eighth grade we did an advertising unit in English class we learned about tricks the media plays and how a lot of the advertisements you see are not completely true. When I watch television or listen to the radio many advertisements get stuck in my head. In order for people to remember items or a businesses name advertisers come up with catchy jingles and sayings. They always get stuck in my head. One thing I learned about advertisers is that they use cartoon characters to get kids interested in a product. One example is Joe camel an advertisment for cigarattes

Spring Break

Stacey's spring break was very relaxing, she went home and spent a lot of time with her boyfriend Dan, who is a senior in high school. Stacey slept in until one almost everyday and went out at night. She also saw her dad who she hadn't seen since Christmas because he lives so far away. She thought it was a lot of fun and it was nice to finally see him again. She also got the opportunity to see her little sister Dana play in her state basketball tournament, it was pretty exciting although they didn't place. Towards the end of her break she got really sad, because she got so comfortable at home again and she didn't want to have to say goodbye to her family, friends, and boyfriend. She also didn't want to start thinking about school again and she didn't want to wake up early anymore.

After the independent work day I still don't feel comfortable with any topics. I want and interesting topic that I will enjoy researching and writing about. I am also looking for topics that aren't so common today so I can learn about more things. I find it difficult to pick a topic because I want to be sure that there will be enough resources available for me to write the paper since it has to be long. Over the break I am going to research topics that I am interested in and hopefully get a start on my draft.

A Modest Proposal

This was a very interesting paper. I have never read anything like it before. At first I didn't really understand what was going on, probably because I would never think of someone writing about this. The writing style was difficult for me to understand. But once I got further into the paper I realized that I was reading it correctly. The problem talked about in the paper is the problem of the poor being aburden to parents and the country. The author talked about the poor suffering from disease and hunger giving the solution of either selling their infants for food are at the age of six putting the children to work. He talked about how infants were good to eat and how selling them would eliminate the population problem of a Kingdom in Ireland. This paper really shocked me.

Go Further DVD

I really enjoyed the documentary Go Further. It was funny and easy to watch, it had my attention from the beginning. One reason is because I really like woody Allen and his movies, so I was interested in what he had to say from the start. I thought it was very interesting and I learned a lot from it. I think the fact that a celebrity is taking a stand and changing his ways is more powerful, and will make more people listen and think about their own actions. I really like how they biked almost the entire way I thought that was pretty cool, and how the bus didn't use gasoline was very interesting because it shows you that we don't need to use natural gas and that there are other alternatives that I never knew about. One thing that I didn't like about the movie was that at the end I felt that Woody and the others on the Trip really only changed their life styles for a couple of weeks I wish I could see how they live and the choices they make without being on the trip but in their personal lives. Because of this movie I don't ever want to drink milk again! Overall I think that this was a good eye opener movie.

My Name

My name is Stacey and it means resurrection. Its origin is Greek and it was originally a short form of the name Anastasia. My middle name is Rae and it means doe. I don't know why my parents chose this name for me I don't know the family history of my name. I am curious now if my parents were even aware of the meaning of my name before they picked it for me. I do like my name I think it suits me, and I think that the meaning is very interesting I would not have guessed that to be the meaning. After looking up the meaning of my name I want to call my parents and ask them why they chose it for me.

What did I learn from the library session, and what concerns do I still have?

From the library session I learned a lot about the different source that are out there for me to use when actually researching my topic. I learned where to look for certain items and I also learned how to find them. I was unsure of my topic before the library session because I wasn't sure if the topic I choose would have enough information, after going and looking through the databases and books I know that there are a lot more resources than I had thought.

One of concerns I have about this research paper is finding good strong sources. I also didn't understand how to find the actual articles from the databases, I had a difficult time finding articles on all of the topics I searched for. I am still unsure of my topic, I am not sure that I will enjoy researching my topic so I am considering changing it to something that I am more interested in. This concerns me because I want to be sure and have enough time to find the information.
